- Những đầu báo cháy qui ước thường được nối kết với tủ điều khiển bằng những mạch dây, mỗi mạch dây bảo vệ một khu vực của hiện trường. 
- Đầu báo cháy hiển thị 2 trạng thái: trạng thái bình thường và trạng thái báo động.
- Thông thừong, tủ điều khiển  đựơc chia thành nhiều zone (mạch zone 1, 2, 3, 4, ..., 8 v.v..) và 2 mạch chuông riêng biệt.

Nhiệm vụ của các thiết bị thuộc hệ thống báo cháy:
- Control Panel: Trung tâm điều khiển hệ thống.
Nơi hiển thị những thông tin liên quan đến trạng thái hoạt động của hệ thống. Khi có báo động hoặc có lỗi kỹ thuật, nó báo cho biết nơi nào đã xảy ra sự cố, nhờ đó con người có thể nhanh chóng chọn biện pháp đối phó thích hợp.
- Control Panel nhận tín hiệu ngõ vào từ các thiết bị khởi báo (đầu báo khói, đầu báo nhiệt, công tắc khẩn, ...) và phát ra các tín hiệu tới các ngõ ra (chuông, còi, loa phóng thanh, đèn báo cháy,...)
Nhiều thiết bị khởi báo có thể nối chung vào một mạch dây. Mỗi mạch dây chạy về tủ trung tâm gọi là một zone.
- Annunciator (Bộ Hiển Thị Phụ):
Tại những hiện trường rộng lớn, nơi mà việc hiển thị thông tin báo cháy cần thông báo tại hơn một vị trí, thì dùng annunciator như là một thiết bị hiển thị bổ sung. Control Panel là nơi hiển thị thứ nhất. Annunciator là nơi hiển thị thứ hai.
Có thể nối kết cùng lúc nhiều annunciator.

- Đầu Báo Khói:
Đặt trên trần nhà, tại những nơi mà tiên liệu sẽ có khói xuất hiện như là dấu hiệu đầu tiên khi có cháy xảy ra.
Khói phát ra từ nguồn cháy, bay lên cao, xâm nhập vào bầu cảm ứng của đầu báo khói, và kích hoạt tín hiệu báo động, truyền về tủ báo cháy.
Đầu báo khói phổ biến hiện nay là đầu báo khói quang điện (photoelectric), spot hoặc beam.

- Đầu Báo Nhiệt:
Đặt trên trần nhà, tại những nơi mà tiên liệu rằng hơi nóng (nhiệt) xuất hiện trong bầu không khí chung quanh đầu báo như là dấu hiệu đầu tiên khi có cháy xảy ra.
Nhiệt phát ra từ nguồn cháy, kích hoạt bộ phân cảm nhiệt của đầu báo, và kích hoạt tín hiệu báo động, truyền về tủ báo cháy.
+ Có 2 loại đầu báo nhiệt: đầu báo nhiệt cố định và đầu báo nhiệt gia tăng.
Đầu báo nhiệt cố định kích hoạt tín hiệu báo động khi nhiệt độ chung quanh nó tăng lên tới một ngưỡng đã được xác định trước, thí dụ 580C, 680C, 1080C chẳng hạn.
Còn đầu báo nhiệt gia tăng thì kích hoạt tín hiệu báo động khi nhiệt độ chung quanh nó đột ngột tăng lên bất thường trong một khoảng thời gian ngắn; thí dụ tăng đột ngột 60C/phút, 80C/phút. 

- Đầu Báo Lửa:
Phát hiện tia cực tím phát ra từ ngọn lửa. Nó rất nhạy cảm với tia lửa, thường được dùng tại những môi trường vô cùng nhạy cảm, dễ bắt lửa, thí dụ như kho chứa xăng dầu. 

- Công Tắc Khẩn:
Nếu những thiết bị khởi báo trên là loại thiết bị kích hoạt tự động, thì công tắc khẩn là loại thiết bị kích hoạt thủ công. Nói cách khác, con người có thể chủ động kích hoạt tín hiệu báo cháy bằng cách tác động vào thiết bị này mỗi khi chính mình tận mắt phát hiện cháy trước khi các thiết bị báo cháy khởi kích.

- Chuông/Còi/Loa Phóng Thanh/Đèn Báo Cháy:

USE OF FLAME ARRESTORS
Many processes involve the transportation of potentially flammable or explosive gases or vapours through varying length of pipe, where there is potential for ignition. suitable measures need to be taken to ensure that in the event of these materials igniting, damage to plant is minimized.
The most effective methods of quenching such flames is to install flame arrestor either at a strategic point along the pipe line or at end of pipe line where materials are being vented in to atmosphere.
IMPORTANCE OF FLAME ARRESTORS
Flame Arrestor is designed to protect the tank by preventing the flame propagation & explosion in the tank.
The Flame Arrestor element dissipates the heat of flame below the ignition point of the vapours.
when the storage tank contains liquids having flash point lower than the possible tank temperature, flame arrestors are recommended.

HOW TO FLAME ARRESTORS WORKS
Flame arrestors are passive device with no moving parts. they prevent the propagation of flame from the exposed side of the unit to the protected side by the use of wound crimped metal ribbon type flame cell element called as Honeycomb. this construction produces a matrix of uniform openings that are carefully constructed to quench the flame by absorbing the head of the flame. this provides an extinguishing barrier to the ignited vapour mixture.
Under normal operating conditions the flame arrestor permits a relatively free flow of gas or vapour through the piping system .if the mixture is ignited and flame begins to travel back through the piping. the arrestor will prohibit the flame from moving back to the gas source.
The type of gas in the system determines its gas grouping and therefore predetermines the type of arrestor required. the element must be designed to accommodate the specific gas group that could possibly ignite and propagate in the system. the more explosive gases require the flame cell channel to absorb the heat more quickly and efficiently.
FLAME PROPAGATION
The difference between the vapours types of flame arrestors are mainly based on the nature of the flame which is expected (especially how fast it moves) and on the expected intensity of pressure pulse created by the flame. a flame is a volume of gas in, which a self-sustaining exothermic (heat producing) chemical reaction is occurring. the reaction is presumed to be oxidation, also known as combustion.

To have a flame three things must be present, oxygen (supply of air) very high temperature (initially supplied by ignition source), and a flammable gas. flammable gas mixed with air in suitable proportions called a combustion mixture. so long as these requirements remain available, a flame can burn indefinitely. Flame arrestors operate by removing one of these elements, high temperature.

In a stationary flammable mixture, a flame seems to move toward the unburned gas leaving combustion products behind that apparent motion is called flame propagation. the flame exists only with in a relatively narrow volume at boundary between the unburned gases and the combustion products.
The speed at, which the flame propagates is measured at the front edge of flame. this speed depends on several variables including the speed of the chemical reaction air- to-gas mixture ratio, and whether the flame confined or unconfined.

A critical concern in flame arrestor installation is possibility of a flame stabilizing on the face of the flame cell element. a flame that continuously burns against the flame cell element for a period of time can heat the element above the gas auto ignition temperature resulting in the flame propagation through the element. the time period varies with the type of element, mixture & flow velocities to achieve the highest achievable temperature at the element.
